Prompting AI may be useful for generating code, but it is not a complete approach to developing and maintaining software applications. As teams gain experience with AI-assisted development, there is increasing recognition that successful projects require a more structured process than ad hoc prompting.
This session introduces Specification Driven Development through a practical, end-to-end example. We will begin by defining specifications for an application and then use those specifications to create an architecture, develop a design plan, review the results, refine the requirements, and iterate on the design. Along the way, we will examine how each stage influences subsequent decisions and how feedback from the process can be used to improve the original specifications.
The session focuses on the early stages of application development that shape the quality of the final outcome. Rather than jumping directly to code generation, we will explore the activities required to understand requirements, evaluate architectural constraints, and establish a design that can support a non-trivial application. The talk concludes with initial code generation based on the specifications and design developed throughout the session.
